Demonstration Alert

Location: Grahadi Building (East Java Governor’s Office), Jalan Gubernur Suryo, Surabaya, East Java

On Friday, May 1st, the U.S. Consulate General Surabaya is aware of a planned demonstration commemorating International Labor Day 2026 around the East Java Governor’s Office (Grahadi Building). The Grahadi Building is in downtown Surabaya. Media reports indicate the protest will be organized by various worker organizations.

Demonstrations may result in enhanced police presence, road closures, and traffic disruptions. Any demonstration, even those intended to be peaceful, could escalate and turn violent.

• Monitor local media for updates
• Allow extra time for travel due to potential road closures
• Follow instructions from local authorities
