Security Alert: Zagreb (Croatia), Multiple Large-Scale Events in Zagreb on May 9

Security Alert – U.S. Embassy (Zagreb, Croatia) May 8, 2026

Location:  Zagreb, Croatia

Three events will take place in Zagreb on Saturday, May 9, 2026.  Expect traffic congestion, enhanced police presence, and increased security measures around the city.

The events include:

  • An annual “Hod za život” (March for Life) demonstration will begin at 10:30 a.m. starting near the Croatian National Theatre and continue to Zrinjevac Park.
  • An annual “Trnjanski kresovi” (Trnje bonfires) demonstration commemorating the liberation of Zagreb in 1945 will begin at 2:00 p.m. near the Freedom Bridge along the Sava River.
  • A soccer match will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Maksimir City Stadium. Local police have declared the event high-risk because of the potential for violent clashes between fans in and around the stadium.

    • Exercise caution in large crowds and congested areas.
