Location: Haiti, countrywide
Event: A general increase in crime and gang-related violence typically occurs during the holiday season, including robberies, assaults, and kidnappings. Criminals may target people who seem distracted or are carrying valuables.
The Trutier neighborhood near the U.S. embassy is experiencing unpredictable gang-related violence including gunfire and kidnappings, as are other areas countrywide.
The U.S. embassy has limited ability to offer emergency services to U.S. citizens beyond the embassy compound due to the safety risks near the embassy and in many areas in Haiti.
