Security Alert: Erongo & Khomas Regions (Namibia), Lockdown

The Namibian Ministry of Health and Social Services has confirmed 8 cases of COVID-19 in Namibia.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19, and the Centers for Disease Control issued on March 27, 2002 a global Warning Level 3 Travel Health Notice to avoid nonessential international travel.  We recognize this has been a challenging period for many of our fellow Americans, particularly those of you seeking to depart Namibia as commercial flights have been cancelled or suspended.

While we continue to work to secure flights for those of you wishing to depart Namibia, we wanted to make you aware of the new restrictions put in place by the Namibian Government.

A lockdown of the Erongo and Khomas regions is now in place.  Individuals are urged to leave their homes or lodging only to visit pharmacies, food supply stores, courts, banks, for exercise, and to seek medical care.  Additional details that may be helpful can be found on the Namibian Presidency’s Facebook page and attached to this alert.

We are in touch with the Namibian government to request guidance on obtaining permission for stranded U.S. citizens located outside of the Khomas region to travel to Hosea Kutako International Airport when a repatriation flight is available.  If you are currently outside of the Khomas region and would like to depart Namibia on a repatriation flight, please respond to this email with your current location.  We will reach out to you once we know what is required for you to travel to the airport.  If you have not yet filled out a Repatriation Form and are in need of repatriation assistance, please fill one out immediately.

We plan to send a second message later today with additional information about potential flights for U.S. citizens.  Please continue to apply best practices for reducing your risk of contracting COVID-19, and please comply with all Namibian Government regulations with regard to the partial lockdown.
