Location: Southwestern Colombia
Alert: On the weekend of April 25, 2026, 26 separate attacks took place in southwestern Colombia, including attacks on transportation corridors, entrances to military installations and police stations. At least 20 people were killed and many more were injured.
As a reminder, Cauca and Valle del Cauca Departments, excluding the cities of Popayan and Cali, are considered unsafe for travelers. Do not travel to these areas for any reason. Violent crime, like armed robbery and murder, is common in these locations. Terrorist groups are active in some of these areas. Due to the risks, some U.S. government employees working in Colombia are prohibited from traveling to these areas. Actions to Take:
- Be aware of your surroundings. Be vigilant near police stations, military installations, and on main roads.
- Wear little to no jewelry and carry few valuables. Keep a low profile.
- Avoid using your cell phone in public.
- Do not physically resist any robbery attempt.
- Keep car doors locked, and windows rolled up.
- Monitor local news media for updates.
