Demonstration Alert: Ongoing Demonstrations in Downtown Guayaquil – February 11, 2026

February 11, 2026

Location: Guayaquil, Ecuador

Event:

According to press and social media reports, public demonstrations and gatherings are developing and continuing in downtown Guayaquil. Avoid the areas between Parque Centenario (Av. 9 de Octubre and Lorenzo de Garacoya) and Parque Seminario (Av. 10 de Agosto and Pedro Carbo). These demonstrations are dynamic and may be convened with little or no advance notice. Disruptions to traffic, public transportation, and other services are possible. We expect public demonstrations and gatherings to continue through the long holiday weekend concluding on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Actions to Take:

  • Plan for unexpected protests and road blockages—reconsider travel to the downtown Guayaquil corridor.
  • Avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, which can escalate quickly and become violent.
  • Monitor ECU911 for information on road closures and emergency announcements.
  • Track official communications from the Government of Ecuador for updates, including the Secretaría General de Comunicación and the Ministerio de Turismo.
  • Follow credible local media sources for accurate information on current conditions.
  • Review the Travel Advisory and safety and security information for Ecuador at Travel.State.Gov .
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)  to receive security updates.
  • Follow the U.S. Mission to Ecuador on Facebook , X , and Instagram  for official updates.
