Location:
Event: Walmart Costa Rica (Corporación de Supermercados Unidos S.R.L.) has issued a voluntary recall of several batches of Don Cristóbal brand tilapia and pangasius frozen fillets due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium capable of causing listeriosis, a potentially severe foodborne infection. The bacterium can multiply at refrigeration temperatures (2–4°C).
This recall is a preventive safety measure communicated by the company to local media on December 4, 2025.

The recall applies to all batches of the following items, which may also have been sold at stores operated by Walmart Costa Rica including Mas x Menos and MaxiPali:

Symptoms of listeria infection may include:
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Abdominal discomfort
- In severe cases: invasive infection, sepsis, or neurological complications
High-risk groups vulnerable to severe outcomes from listeria infection include pregnant individuals, adults over age 65, and persons with weakened immune systems.
Actions to Take:
- If you have purchased any of the listed products, do not eat them.
- If you have eaten any of the listed products and experience fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal discomfort, seek medical attention.
- Items may be returned to the store where purchased for replacement.
- Consumers may contact Walmart’s customer support line: 800-8000-722 (Mon–Fri, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).
