Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Typhoon Damrey

East Asia & Pacific > Vietnam

The U.S. Consulate Ho Chi Minh City cautions U.S. citizens that Typhoon Damrey is forecasted to make landfall Friday night into Saturday morning, November 3 or 4, between Nha Trang and Phan Rang-Thap Cham in the southern coastal region of Vietnam. The U.S. Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center forecasts that the storm will strengthen slightly as it approaches land before rapidly weakening as it passes over southern Vietnam, and central Cambodia by November 5.  Expect very high winds, dangerous storm tides, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding to occur.

All U.S. citizens living in or traveling to the area should monitor local weather reports, follow directions from local officials, and take other appropriate actions as needed.
