U.S. Embassy Valletta is advising U.S. citizens traveling in, through, or out of Malta that there is an incident taking place, of a hijacked aircraft from Libya has landed at the airport. Airport is resuming normal operations. The aircraft from Libya has been cordoned off and isolated, and some passengers have been allowed to deplane. Travelers should stay in touch with their airlines to make alternate arrangements if necessary, and to let friends and family know they are safe.
U.S. citizens are encouraged to monitor media and local information sources and factor updated information into personal travel plans and activities. Specific safety concerns should be addressed to Malta law enforcement authorities who are responsible for the safety of all visitors to Malta.
