Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Sarajevo (BiH), Explosions in Sarajevo

U.S. Embassy Sarajevo informs U.S. citizens that the police continue to investigate a series of previous explosions throughout the city of Sarajevo.  Since December 7, there have been five incidents in which unknown perpetrators have detonated small explosive devices:


  • ­   Café Tesla Pub near Bascarsija around 3:30 a.m., December 7
  • ­   Café City Lounge near Bascarsija around 3:30 a.m., December 7
  • ­   Bjelave, along Tijesna Street, around 10:00 p.m., December 8
  • ­   Hair-salon Rekord,Buca Potok, Radenka Abazovica Street, around 10:00 p.m., December 10
  • ­   Café Ginger, Behdzeta Mutevelica #2, Grbavica District, around 3:00 a.m., December 12


Criminal enterprises sometimes use explosive devices to intimidate as well as retaliate against known individuals or their business establishments.   We encourage U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.  Be aware of your surroundings and have a plan in the case of emergency to get to safety.  Let others know of your plans and where you intend to be.  Keep important phone numbers stored in your cell phone.
