Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Brussels (Belgium), Brussels Protest November 17

The U.S. Embassy Brussels informs U.S. citizens that an organized march will take place in Brussels on November 17, 2016. Police will be present.

On November 17, 2016, from 10:00 to 16:00 hours, the Kurdish "Peoples" Democratic Party (HDP) will conduct a protest march against the current Turkish government. The demonstrators will start to gather at the Gare du Nord around 10:00 hours and will begin marching at 11:00 hours. They will arrive at Cinquantenaire at approximately 12:30 hours, where they will remain for speeches to be read. Approximately 10,000 people are expected to participate. Please expect traffic disruptions.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
