Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Karachi (Pakistan), Threats to Places of Worship

South Central Asia > Pakistan > Karachi

Due to the December 17 attack on the Bethel Memorial Methodist Church in Quetta, Balochistan, and continuing concerns of potential attacks targeting faith-based communities during the upcoming holiday season, the U.S. Embassy is temporarily restricting the movement of all U.S. government employees in Pakistan to all places of worship, effective immediately.

U.S. citizens should carry appropriate identity documents when in Pakistan and should cooperate with police and security forces in any encounter. It is possible that cell phone connections may be disrupted during periods of unrest.
