Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Guatemala City (Guatemala), Increased Violence in San Marcos

The Embassy has determined that Ixchiguan and Tajumulco and surrounding areas, located in the department of San Marcos, are off-limits to U.S. Embassy personnel until further notice due to an increase in local violence.

The Embassy recommends that private U.S. citizens in Guatemala also take appropriate precautions when considering travel to these locations.
