Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Naples (Italy), Precautions in Naples on March 18

Europe > Italy > Naples

The U.S. Consulate in Naples informs U.S. citizens of a heightened security presence in the Chiaia district of Naples leading up to and including the possible violent protests taking place on Vico Fiorentine, Chiaia, Naples on March 18, 2017.  Authorities anticipate possible violent protests in response to the opening of the “Ordine Nuovo” headquarters in Naples. The host nation authorities are not currently aware of any scheduled protests against the event, but will provide for increased police security in the area. They expect the event may not be peaceful.  The police also advised that there may be traffic disruptions in the vicinity of the event.

U.S. citizens should maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities.  We encourage you to review the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Alert for Europe.

Even events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or festival events.
