Security Alert: Troncal del Caribe (Route 90) Blocked Near Guachaca

Location: Troncal del Caribe (Route 90) near Guachaca, Departamento de Magdalena

Event: The Troncal del Caribe (Route 90) between Calabazo and Los Linderos is blocked due to conflict between the Colombian Armed Forces and illegal armed groups.  This area is not far from Tayrona National Park, and travel to the Park on certain routes may be limited or difficult.

U.S. citizens are cautioned to avoid this area and the area near the park at this time.  If you become aware of crowds or violence in your vicinity, shelter in place until you are able to leave the area safely.

U.S. Embassy Bogota will monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

Actions to Take: 

  • If you encounter large groups or hear gunfire, shelter in place immediately
  • Do not confront armed individuals or groups
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities
  • Monitor local media for security updates
