Niger
U.S. Embassy Niamey issued the following Warden Message on February 22: The Embassy has received information of student demonstrations taking place throughout Niamey today. The purpose of the demonstrations is to protest the President's refusal to respond to previously expressed student demands. Demonstrations such as these could be recurrent throughout the coming days or weeks. The demonstrations seem to be led by students at the high school and university level. We are aware that demonstrations have taken place and continue to be located in the area of the Issa Berri Lycée on Avenue de la République / Avenue Tillaberi in Niamey, not far from Les Delices bakery. However, demonstrations have been reported elsewhere in Niamey and could take place in other parts of the city today or in coming days and weeks.
Please take responsibility for your own safety. The Embassy recommends that you avoid public demonstrations. Demonstrations can turn violent without warning.
